Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post or not - first timer here, so apologies if so! I'll try and be brief.

Early stages of putting DF into sheltered accommodation which is paid for by monthly rent. Unfortunately he is not eligible for any housing benefit as such, because he owns his own home (albeit small).

I'm really not sure what to do for the best. I suppose we could sell the house and pay the rent from that, or we could perhaps rent it which would easily cover the cost also. However, someone has mentioned that I should get him to sign the house over to myself and my brother so that he no longer owns it as an asset - not sure what benefit this give us, if any?

Does anyone have any experience of this kind of thing please? I really don't know where to start!

Signing the house over to you and/or your brother is a bad idea - have a read about Depravation of Assets

Thanks HilaryBriss - very interesting. I do wonder if that's what he was suggesting!

I think it was more about whether it would make it easier/simpler/less onerous in the future when the "time comes" as it were. If we were to go down this route, it I would still envisage us renting the house at and still paying her rent etc that way. Just trying to think whether it's advantageous in any way
