Bought new car, think I've been ripped off

I@m just on my way out so may not be able to reply straight away but I'd really appreciate some advice. We bought a used car from a small dealer last week and had it serviced and air con regased yesterday. It brought up numerous faults, inlcuding needing new brake pads, discs and cylinders, rear cylinder, new tyres (in 3000 miles) and wiper blades. We paid market value for the car and were given a warranty with it but after speaking to them today it seems they won't pay up becuase they only pay on faults developing after buying the car. They sugested contacting the dealer- which I haven't done yet- to try to resolve with them. I'm so gutted, I wanted this specific car and was really chuffed when I found one and wondered if anyone could offer some advice on what, if any, my rights are. I know there is a degree of 'buyer beware' but does this still apply to purchases from a dealer and faults of this nature? TIA

(I've taken car to local garage this morning and they're going to get back to me with quotes and book me in- dealer is 70 miles away and we're going on holiday in a few days so have to get it fixed before we go . Does this affect it in any way?)

I'm not sure that unless its "unfit for purpose" that you can do anything.

I'd recommend having an RAC check or similar on any major second hand car purchase, in much the same way as you'd get a house surveyed before making an offer.

Sorry your car is not right. I am in the same sit - brought a car in April (Y reg) which broke down yesterday and I'm trying to work out how much it is going to cost me, feeling pretty gutted about it.

I hope you get it sorted out.

AA Car Data Check is a good product, as is Vehicle Mileage Check if you do buy a new car (says Elf who did not take her own advice!)
They're both products by Experian so very reliable!

Thanks, have been quoted £385 for work . Dealer have offered to pay for parts if we do labour but they reckon it'll cost £90 whereas 2 local garages quoted £250 for parts alone so I'm not sure what to do. BIte his hand off and learn his lesson or argue the point a bit more? Am just about to search for parts online to help the comparison

If the garage are agreeing that they should supply the parts then they should pay the labour too - the parts aren't going to magically fir themselves are they?
Tell them you will accept 50% of the toal bill.
