Usually my partner earns around £230 a week working 30 hours. This week he was off work ill so will only earn about £170. Will he still be taxed and had to pay national
Insurance on that? I know usually once it gets below a certain level you don't pay for the week. His boss reckons he has no holiday left to rake as I believe you earn it whilst working like mine, however if that is the case I still think he should have some. He is freaking out.

It depends.

Is he on an emergency tax code?

(I thought the two of you had split up and he had moved out?)

No. Won’t pay tax but will pay ni

He has moved out.. we are currently living seperatley and gone back to basics and back to dating to see if we can salvage this. He sees his kids on his own etc. He asked me as he was concerned as he he has to pay his bills this week. He's not on emergency tax. His employer originally put him on marriage tax so she has now changed it back and it's making his payments slightly higher. X

You pay tax on annual income. So if his annual income is above £11,800 he'll pay tax on everything he earns above that amount.

Blackoutblinds · 12/10/2018 18:54

Is he PAYE?

He’s not your partner if you have split up.

Heratnumber7 · 12/10/2018 18:54

20% on everything above £11,800.

Blackoutblinds · 12/10/2018 18:57

If he’s on PAYE they use tax tables to take the correct amount off every week so that it’s right over the year.

He will probably pay less or no tax depending on what his annual income is, and he will pay his Nat ins.

Stepparentchallenges · 12/10/2018 19:50

I believe he is paye thank you everyone :) xx

Oh and as to holidays it depends.

He may have a yearly allowance (mine runs Jan to Jan but where I was before was end March to end March) or he might accrue the holidays on a monthly basis. That’s roughly 2 days a month.
