Cost of touch typing course

Has anyone done one of these ?

I've been quoted £320 for a two day course in Manchester
and I have no idea if that is a good deal or not.

I'd be interested to know of any cheaper options.

Thanks in advance.

A cheaper option would be to Google and find one of the free on-line ones, there are loads of them. I'm not sure you could learn to touch type in 2 days anyway.

Years ago I did an online course which was great as you could practice when you liked and at your own pace

sugarbum · 05/10/2018 15:17

no idea. have you tried sites like groupon and wowcher?

I think online (free) courses would be better to be honest. I taught myself back in the day using a book and a word processor but these days there must be a gazillion ones ont'interweb.

Regular practice is a key part of success at this. You could get a fair way through in 2 days, but to really master it will take at least a few more weeks followup I would have thought.

I'd agree, try online stuff first. If DanceMat is still on the BBC website, although aimed at children, it is pretty good.

BBC have a free touch typing course on their website.

Do yi want to learn to type to get a qualification or to improve your typing?
I did something called e-type at work which was a British Computer Society course. It doesn't exist now but there appears to be a similar course which costs about £20 and you can get an open learning certificate. E-type was one of these things that you log into in a training centre. and the one Ifound seems similar but you can do it from home. You were recomended to only do about 1 or 2 hours at a time and ideally no more than twice a week- to allow for practice in between.
I don't think 2 days intensive gives you sufficient time to re-inforce what you learn.

I gained Pitman qualifications many years ago, it took several weeks attended a centre and it cost lots. However, when I went for interviews it meant that I could copy or audio type at 45+ words a minute with no mistakes. So that is what you probably need to aim for. I am able to type faster now. I expect that there are free courses on YouTube. However, it boils down to daily practice and you will get faster

Do you need a certificate or do you need to just learn to touch type?

There are a lot of free courses on the net. It may be worth having a go at some of those and then, if you need a certificate, paying out the money when you are a little more proficient.

Good luck
