How much should I give church for baby's baptism?

Our eight-month-old is being baptised on Saturday at our local Catholic Church.
A donation is expected, but no amount has been suggested by the church- we've been told to give it to the priest on the day.
I was thinking £50 - there won't be any altar servers etc otherwise would have put in extra for them - is this a reasonable amount?

Yes, that sounds fine.

is it part of a service?

I would have a plate for donations from attenders and then top it up.

Not an expert on RC- you say priest but C of E guests give through the donations plate/bag.

I'm shocked. The Catholic Church I attended growing up had a printed price list for things like this and there was nothing discretionary about it.

If the baptism is not part of a full mass with music and communion being offered I think 50 quid is more than generous. Congratulations!

I think we gave £30 but that was 4 years ago so I think £50 would be reasonable.

i had a blessing for my son at a c of e church and gave £60 - also had no idea how much. I thought for an hour's time for the vicar plus an hour or so to discuss it beforehand, plus church itself, that was quite cheap really. Enjoy the day!

Brings back memories of my DN's christening several years ago - parents, godparents and baby were gathered at the font and the first thing the priest said on arrival was 'Where's the fee? - I need to be paid first' - godparents and parents had to have a quick whip round to hand over the cash so that the service could begin. We put £50 in a card for our children’s baptism. There was a collection plate for donations from guests too. Ours were private services so not part of the main mass. I hope you have a lovely day/ celebration!
