Am so fed up. This week my hubby has had lots of work and the money will be rolling in. For the past three years I have really wanted a patio furniture set so sitting in the garden is comfy - finally we have enough money to justify buying it. I'm not looking for anything fancy - just a basic £100 set will be fine. We were going to go out on Friday and buy it and I was sooo stupidly pleased and excited.
DH has just phoned - the car has broken down and it looks as though the starter motor has gone. Why is it whenever we have ANY spare cash that something always goes bloody well wrong - am so hacked off. I know I should be grateful - at least the money to repair the car will be there. But - why is life always sodding well like this. The last time we had a large amount of cash in January my old car died and we had to buy a new one - it took all the £800 DH had earned in December. Six months and the starter motor has gone. Pissed off, pissed off, pissed off.....

Bummer.
Have you considered trolling car boot sales to find what you want for less?

try ringing scrap yards for parts...we did for our old old car and got them so much cheaper.

Life! This always happens to us too not that's it's very often when we have extra money coming in more when we have found a really good saving on something we need as opposed to just want so we think great and then relieved when we actually have that extra bit of cash left over because the car suddenly presents us with a huge bill, I could go on!

Well I think you're doing very well not even thinking of putting your garden furniture on a credit card. So many people live on credit and when you do get the money together, you can feel proud of yourselves for saving for it.

Ah - mc - been there and done that and have the debts to prove it.

Feeling better today. Glass half full and all that...

BTW for when you do get some dosh, Homebase have a sale on. Saw a round teak table & 4 chairs there yesterday for £80.

do you have a local freecycle group - ours somtimes has stuff like that on it. Maybe might not be as pretty as you'd imagined but might at least get you something to sit on for this summer and you could pick up dream set later in the year in the sale if you have any spare cash then.

Some ideas to make you see the positive in all this

  1. Its been raining for a couple of days now. We live in Britain and have already had nice days this year so it might rain until september and then you would have wasted your money.
  2. Agree with previous poster hurrah that you are not stating that you NEED new patio furniture and rushed out at Easter to buy it on credit.
  3. Chat up and possibly offer beer bribes to the chaps at your tip. Other people who have needed to go and buy new patio furniture on credit take old stuff to tip at this time of year. With current recycling targets the men are usually quite pleased to 'recycle' stuff brought in. I should know cos thats what we did!

Yes -belong to Freecycle and am keeping a look out. Have given quite alot of stuff away so might be cheeky and make a request to see if anyone has an old set they no longer want.
