Tax credits evidence

Hi all,

HMRC tax credits have sent me a letter saying they have evidence that links my ex to the address in April. It has listed a lot of stuff for me to gather which I have tried to do, but there are a couple of things I'm concerned about.

Although I have a new tenancy agreement in my name, it is not dated to the period they have asked for as I didn't consider it a priority, also we have an open joint account which I am assuming happens a lot in separated couples, it is well into overdraft so I don't think we can close it and I'm not prepared to take his name off the account and for me to be left with the debt. Also my council tax 25% discount adjustment wasn't done until end of august although they have backdated it to May.

I'm just concerned the evidence I am handing in doesn't look very clean. I am aware that he has a lot of things still registered to the address loans etc, half of which he probably doesn't remember as he is in that much of a financial mess. He is suffering with very bad anxiety and is getting medical help (so he says) so I find it difficult to bring up changing addresses as I think he believes I will one day take him back, which I wont be. Life has been so much more stress free without him(up until this letter). I am moving out of that address in a couple of weeks so he will have to deal with it then I suppose and any financial links will then be easier to sever.

Has anyone else had to go through this? just having a right panic about it at the moment, just when I feel like I will be able to manage without him fine and become independent I have to worry about losing tax credits and taking a step back. I work but would still struggle to live on my salary.

I'd write an accompanying letter to explain the discrepancies as you have above.
