When to notify?

I wonder if anyone can advise?

I've been claiming (as a joint claim with DH) the childcare tax credit element of tax credit for a while now and hopefully have submitted everything correctly and provided any updates etc.

We get just over £100 every 4 weeks so not a fortune but with 3 children it all helps.

My query:

For the past few months I've done some overtime (about £1k worth) and need to notify them of this. I haven't so far as I'm not sure how much more overtime is going to be offered at my work and how much I will do. It's not set in stone as depends on volumes of work and it's voluntary so if I'm busy I just don't do it. What figures do I provide?

More seriously, I recently read here that any prospective inheritance should be notified. We have finally got probate for my dad's estate and the sale of his house is due to go through in weeks. I will then get a substantial sum. Obviously then I won't claim. However, I don't yet have exact figures and, if the sale falls through, it might be months before I get any £.

So do I notify now or so I wait until I have exact figures? Should I put them on notice via a letter? I generally update via the website as I just don't have the patience to wait for hours on the phone. The website doesn't cater for non specifics.

If I have to pay back money ok, but I don't want to be fined for not alerting them of changes.

Thanks for any help.

Overtime as you’ve already been in receipt of it that’s a change in circumstance so I would notify them now. When I had overtime they asked me to estimate the changes to my income over all .... with the inheritance I’d call and ask advice but yi may be told that you don’t need to notify them until it’s actually been paid to you. As like you said it’s not a fixed in stone deal yet. I tried to notify them in advance of my now DH moving in with me so I’d need to cancel my claim at that point and was told I couldn’t notify them of that change until he had moved in unless I wanted to cancel my claim early
