Getting an extension

Hi, just looking for some advice!

I am looking at getting an extension on my home and for this I will need to take out a mortgage. I am currently a home owner and the house is in my name only. I can get enough on the mortgage on just my income but wondering whether it is best to add my dh to the house and have him as part of the mortgage.

Is there any benefit to doing this? Or is it better to keep things separate?

Thank you

If he is on the deeds then he will have to go on the mortgage. To be fair though, it is in your interests and his to add him on. Otherwise he could be classed as a dependent adult, depending on the mortgage provider. Why wouldnt you add him on? He's your husband.

He isn't on the deeds at the moment, have no problem adding him on but wanted to know if there were any advantages financially to not adding him?
Guessing it will cost to do so and didn't know if there was an advantage to not doing so.

Thank you for your reply

The advantage is that his salary will be taken into consideration. It will cost you regardless as there are legal fees involved when taking out a mortgage. Some mortgage companies will pay this for you. Some mortgage companies will insist he is on the mortgage as he has a financial interest, being your husband. You need advice from a broker who can look at your circumstances
