Are you in the uk? Pretty much any bog standard current account will do what you want. They won't charge you, but not will they pay you much/ any interest unless you have regular amounts going in.

Any bog standard bank account will do. You only pay a fee for extras. Go into any bank of your choosing and set up a basic current account.

Halifax. They paid me £125 to open it and give me £3 a month if I deposit £750 and have two direct debits. I don't usually pay in £750 though.

Thanks very much, x

Depends on your credit rating. Many banks won't let you open an account without a good credit rating.

Just about anyone can open a basic bank account that offers no overdraft

Highly recommend Monzo. The app is fantastic. If you go abroad it is free to use.

is this a difficulty? Most of us set up accounts even for a new baby. The idea people can't or don't have a bank account is surely just an issue with bankrupted people or people with no UK address or from North Korea or something.

Ceeeeeelia · 16/09/2018 21:09

It can be difficult to open an account if you've got an extremely bad credit rating or (more commonly) if you move around a lot and find it difficult to provide proof of address. But it's relatively rare.

Some banks are better than others in here circs - Metrobank are great if you're near one, Lloyds can be good. HSBC are pickier.

They all do basic bank accounts, but you still need proof of address etc.

What do you need from the account? If you have a poor credit history, a credit union might suit.

We’ve got a joint bank account with NatWest and we have set up 2 savings accounts and I just switch the money around
It’s good because I can save for holidays and stuff and pay off the credit card
I do online banking and moving money is very easy to do
