Sister has asked me to look after her DS when she goes back to work

I'm a SAHM to my 17 months old DS so in August I would then also look after my sisters 6 months old DS full time.
This is, after being at home herself, this is her 2nd choice of child care.

She has asked me to give her a price, but I have no idea.

Would you charge just a low price "off the books" or register it as income?
If it's off the books then they loose out on tax credits, don't they?

I really have no idea what will be best for her or us, so I hope someone out there knows a bit more about this and can guide me.

Or is it not worth it, do I just do it at cost??

Unless you are a registered childminder she would not be able to get anything back through her tax credits anyway.

If you look after the child in your house then after a certain amount of hours you should have to register as a childminder. But if you do it at hers you don't.....
THink in order for her to claim tax credits the childcare provision she chooses must be registered....

as an aunt you will not need to be registered to look after your nephew. But, if ou do register your sis will be able to claim tax credits - and you could potentially take on more work too, to make it more financially viable.

I was cming until recently, and was charging £3.30 ph (all inclusive except nappies) if that gives you some idea

My SIL looked after dd whilst I was at work and I gave her £20 per day. This was just an amount I came up with based on the fact if I gave her anymore there'd be no point going to work. She didn't want anything at first but I mdae her take it since it was 2 days a week every week not just the odd day. She didn't register as a minder.

If I were you I'd want paying if it's fulltime babysitting. The amount would depend on how much she earns if it were me.
