Temp accommodation or renting from a private landlord ?

Hi all!
I’m really stressed and confused about my current situation.
I’m currently 8.5 weeks pregnant and me and my partner are being made homeless.
We’re already on the waiting list for a council house but I know that will take years.
Im the only one working atm my husband is looking for work.
We’ve been to our local council and they’re telling us to rent from a private landlord and apply for universal credit ..

But the thing is no landlord will want to accept us with only earning 1k a month and most landlord don’t accsept DSS tenants.

We only have until Friday to sort this out or the council will give us temp accommodation and put us anywhere in the UK not even in the area we are in atm. Which is scary.

Don’t know what to do, but will going into private renting not give us a chance to get a council house in the future ?

The op isn’t going to be able to rent in a shared house easily as op is pg and that isn’t going to something other sharers or live in LL want.

She's 8 weeks pregnant - they won't know and it's legitimate to not tell them as most people tell no one but their partner and very closest friends at that point! They would clearly have to find something else before baby arrives, but since the idea would be that shared accommodation would be a stopgap until her DP finds a new job and so they have a much better income to put down. It's not ideal, but if they don't have the income for their own rental property at the moment what else can they do?

Lisa you do realise that the bump will eventually show and then there is absolutely no protection in a house share for op to be asked to leave as there isn’t a tenancy agreement in these house shares. Then op is back to square one but nearer birth

This sounds awful but whether or not the OP likes the idea of living in a shared house is irrelevant.

What exactly do you think temporary accommodation is like for a couple without any children even when the woman is pregnant?

In terms of temporary accommodatipn, the OP may be exceptionally lucky and get a flat but more likely she will get B & B type accommodation.

Temporary accommodation is aweful and that’s being diplomatic

It would be silly for op though to get into shared accommodation and then in 3 months time be facing another eviction without any rights and find herself homeless

Then she’d be facing the prospect of going into temporary accommodation 3 months down the line

If no then where are you getting all of your expert knowledge from?

Absolute nonsense.

In house shares or HMOs where the residents are not renting the whole property together, it is a LEGAL REQUIREMENT for each tenant to be given an AST.

Most ASTs are either 6 or 12 months in length so this situation would not happen.

As for a 6 month tenancy, if op can get one, that would leave op 8 months pregnant or there abouts - great timing. This is a crucial problem with short term tenancy in private renting. Op would still need to pass a credit check and then what 6 months she'll be back to quare one but heavily pregnant or 12 months and with a 3 month old baby and extremely unlikely to be able to stay in house share

Again because you don't seem to understand this I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT ANYTHING OTHER THAN RENTING A ROOM IN A SHARED HOUSE / HMO WITH AN AST.

As for credit checks, most councils have an arrangement with a few private landlords that don't require credit check / deposit / references because the council make arrangements with the LL.

In some areas, councils themselves rent properties from LL and then sub-let them to people who they have a duty to house.

Think about it, how do you think people who are homeless and sleeping rough ever get housed when they have no documentation or money?

I don't know why you have decided to try and criticise my advice and state nonsense but perhaps you have had a bad day.

Also, you still didn't answer my question about working in housing services.
