We have a 4 bedroom house.

2 adults and 2 children.

We’re about to move so I’m reevaluating as I think removals is a risky time for potentially losing everything.

£48/month gives us £50K cover. £78 gives us £100K cover. Both are more than I’d like to pay!

That was kind of my thought.

I’m going to go around and take some photos today to help with remembering what we have. I couldn’t tell you what make our TVs are never mind model!

I would say it's worth doing the calculator thing to add it all up. We used it although we did have to make best guesses for some things. For example I have no idea how much our best crockery cost as some was a gift and other pieces we've bought bit by bit over the years. I would need to look up every single item and cost it all up. So instead I looked up the price of a dinner plate and calculated that we have 8 plates @ £16 each which is £128 and then thought about all of the other types of crockery we have and used that figure as a comparative marker. DH had made a random guess of about £300 but using my method it's closer to £1.5k. It's really surprising how quickly everything adds up.

We have insurance for our 3 bed for £100k and we bought it annually but it works out at £10/month. If you're in a high risk area then that definitely changes things.

That seems expensive, I pay £250 a year for 6 bed house and contents.

Yes I agree really need to check you are fully insured. I know a family who came back from holiday and their house was flooded. Literally everything was destroyed. They had to live in a hotel for weeks and were then moved into a rental house. Was months and months before they could move back in. Also know of another family whose home was destroyed by fire. They managed to escape but again everything destroyed.
