Advice on fees etc when buying first home

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice on what I may need to save when buying my first home. Me and my partner will have around 15% deposit within the next couple of months but I'm unsure how much roughly extra we will need to save for all fees involved, a rainy day fund, etc.

The home we will buy at some point will hopefully not be much of a fixer upper but I understand we should have a buffer for any emergencies.

I know this varies between price ranges and areas but can anyone give me a rough idea of what they saved and if they have any regrets or advice? I'm very obsessive with planning and I don't have a good idea of what to save and its driving me crazy! Thank you Smile

The solicitors fees that I paid were 750 pounds. Also what I didn't know when moving into the house was to check it's it's freehold or leasehold. People say it doesn't matter too much but I would recommend checking esp if yous are thinking about extending.
Keep an emergency fund for the likes of a new boiler or Windows etc.
Another thing that I got told was to check for cracks lol so I became obsessed with checking for cracks in the walls haha.
I think the survey was a couple of hundred pounds. Definatley worth getting the more in depth one as I heard that some of the cheaper ones just do drive bys.

Sorry of you already know this info just going off the top of my head. I'm presuming yous have saved money for furniture and decorating
Good luck Grin

Some banks charge a mortgage arrangement fee. Land registry fee. You will need house and contents insurance. Survey. Moving costs. Mail forwarding service. Possibly stamp duty. I agree with emergency funds. You can buy furniture and decorate over time. The solicitors may find other fees that you will need to pay.
