Universal Credit denied - 6 months pregnant

Hello,

I am a Swedish national who has been in this country and worked since 2009.

I recently lost my job and had to claim Universal Credit and look for a new one whilst pregnant. I just had news today that they denied my application for UC, as I only have jobseeker status in this country. What have I payed thousands of pounds for over the years, I do not know.

What happens next?
I have made a mandatory reconsideration with them, but I am not very optimistic to be honest. What happens when my baby is born, will we both be "jobseekers" from the day she is born, will I not get any help? I cant work and wont have anybody to employ me with a newborn, this is EUROPE for gods sake.

Completely panicking...

You can avoid UC all together and claim jsa before 29 weeks and once you get to week 29 you can go over to income support. There is another habitual residency test for income support but there are slightly different requirements and stipulations as it’s not focused on the same things as UC, this is what I have been informed when I have been at the job centre and speaking to them there.

But I thought that in an area where UC has been introduced, you are obliged to have UC, and that you can't apply for other types of benefits.

I'm not sure why the OP has started another thread on the same subject....the only diffrence being that today she has a partner whereas yesterday's thread she didn't:

You can ask Hmrc to confirm your employment history in writing. They will write to you listing where you worked and the dates. Financial services roles sometimes require this.

Isn't jobseekers pretty much the sameish as jobseekers. You still get money and will get child benefit and child tax credit also will get housing benefit. On universal credit you'll get one lump sum which covers this rather than it being loads of different payments. You'll be going onto income support soon as your pregnant mabye that's why. Have they said if your going to receive any money?

NotSoThinLizzy · 16/08/2018 17:04

Ment same as universal credit.

If you've worked in tax years 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 then you can claim a contribution based benefit. This could be JSA or ESA

This is a complicated area and you need advixe from CAB or benedits advisor because there is relevant case law. I think your work does not have to be continuous for the 5 years but might be mis-remembering.
