Universal credit

My partner and I receive child tax credit atm but he may soon be in a position to pay our mortgage off. Our area has just started universal credit, I assume we will change to that from tax credits. Am I right in thinking that if he pays the mortgage off we won't be entitled to universal credit at all?

You can still get UC with no mortgage. you do not have to switch to UC just because your area has become a full service UC area. unless you have a change in circumstances you will stay on tax credits until you are migrated across.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to be much worse off on UC and am dreading changing over. I thought the government said we weren't going to be worse off on UC but that seems to be a blatant lie.

Well you'll be certainly better off once you have no mortgage. Most people are paying hundreds a month.

My partner pays the mortgage so for him it will be much improved, I will be worse off

Here is a table of the changes that would trigger a move to universal credit from charity called Entitled to
