Pensions: unemployed

Hello!

Sorry if this comes across clueless...its likely because I am a bit!

Due to mental health reasons, I have been unemployed for a year and a half. Looking to get back into work, but it's a slow process. I haven't claimed any benefits over this time, so was wondering if its worth me paying my national insurance for the year, which I'm hoping will then contribute the year towards my state pension?

If unemployment is an ongoing issue, I suppose opening a private pension for myself would be the best bet, getting my husbands support until I am ready to work again. Can anyone confirm or advise the right thing to do?

Thanks

Claim benefits then your national insurance 'stamp' is paid to entitle you to a state pension for yourself (not your husband) You need to protect yourself and your future. Look on www.gov.uk website if in UK

Thanks. I just assumed I wouldn't be able to get benefits if I am not actively looking for work, rather working on my heath, but I will investigate the best thing to do. Thank you!
