Child tax credits

I hope I'm asking in the right place...

An older friend of mine has just found out she's pregnant and trying to work out her finances.

I thought that if you already had 2 children then you couldn't claim child tax credits, however her eldest dc is now 28 and was born before tax credits were in existence.

Does this mean as even though she has 2 dc, because she has only claimed for one then she will be able to claim again now?

Thank you.

you can claim for 2 children maximum. if she isn't claiming for the eldest, then she will be able to claim for the baby.
