Right, we are already at the bone, HOW can we afford 3 kids, and a car to transport them in, on one income? HOW?

We are bascially breaking even every month

We hardly have extravagent lifestyles.

We cook everything from scratch, though I accept there could be less strawberies and more reuse of leftovers.

We buy 90% organic

All kids clothes, and most of ours, are handmedowns or from ebay/charity shops. Ditto most toys etc.

We use reusable nappies etc.

Holidays-camping, or with grandparents

Have already shopped around for cheapest utilites / insuance etc - ta Martin's Money Tips

I want a very safe car with 3 x ISOFIX seats, this is non negotiable, I am utterly utterly neurotic about car safety. This looks like the fiat multipla and whoa they are expensive.

Plus also-there WILL be another mouth to feed, clothe, etc.

We got me, 3 adult children and 2 8 year olds into the Citreon S car which is pretty small a few weeks ago. But we only do little occasional journeys and virtually never except then with all 6 of us.

Ceolas · 26/05/2007 12:22

Filly, you need to go to the shop and try the seats.

Honestly, it's the only way

allgonebellyup · 26/05/2007 13:02

God, whats the big deal with the CAR??

Get a ford escort for £500 and be done with it.

Or else get the bus. Simple. There are other people in the world with 3 kids who manage, you know.
And people used to actually SURVIVE with small cars, or, wait for it - NO car at all..OH!!
Just imagine!

Well I'm quite happy with our £900 car. So that's why I suggested therapy over her being utterly neurotic over car safety as the cheaper option and cheaper cars if you drive carefully aren't always a risk to children. If it's passed the MOT then it is legally safe to drive. We cycle a lot too and that's even riskier.

My SIL gets three in the back of her Ford Focus, all with car seats.

Dogsby · 26/05/2007 16:56

Has anyone mentioned selling your nearly new outgrown shoes on Ebay? Could get a tenner each if they were that hot to begin with.

fillyjonk · 26/05/2007 19:38

okay am feeling a lot better about this whole thing really. I started this thread when in complete headless chicken mode. Now I can see that all these things are doable, and all these posts have helped to get a bit of perspective, so thanks all.

(re the shoes: lol, yes i have already sold them. got £30 total (and actually, both pairs were in the sale to start with. £100 was a bit of a dramatic overexageration. So nearly broke even. Not that bad. maybe i can see if anyone wants 16 used pg tests...)

Loads of p-oeple sell pg tests on ebay you know!

The car- if I can drive it you can. Why do I say this?

I used to drive a mini.

An old mini.

Indeed, I used to have several and tour a bot with them to the shoes .

If I, with my lack of spacial awareness (do you know I still cant tell you the way from Caerleon to the tesco Spytty? we've been here 2 years now) and borsderline eyesight can handle one, so can anyone. genuinely.
