Claim on flood insurance while receiving benefits.

I receive benefits and I'm a carer for my two disabled children.
A few weeks back my house was caught up in the flash floods in Wales.
I was away when this happened, so on my return found I lost everything downstairs. Literally everything!!

Ive never claimed on house insurance before in my entire life, so had no clue how it all worked. Luckily I got a little help from a friend.
It has been the worse few weeks of my life, so upsetting to see your entire life in skips.
I'm emotionally drained and now I'm worried about how the claim will affect my benefits.
The thought of Having a huge lumb sum put in my bank is worrying me.
Obviously all the money is counted for and is to replace all the items I lost and repairs and so on.
But won't the money be classed as savings?

But if I don't accept the claim I have nothing.
We live upstairs in a damp house because I can't afford to move anywhere else either.
Does anyone have any information on this?

The Money Advice Service website says that payouts from insurance claims won't be counted for six months where the money is going to be used to replace or repair:
