CCJ Recent - help?

Good evening all,

I am hoping someone can point me into the right direction, I have buried my head in the sand for far too long and I have made a promise to become debt free by the end of 2018. My plan was simple, to save 50% of my total debt worth, which is just under £5,000, and offer F&F settlements to my 6 creditors. However, that has meant not communicating with them until I had the appropriate funds. I have not made a payment to any creditor for 3 years, jumping from place to place hoping they won't find me and they will forget about me - stupid, I know.

Now, I recently checked my credit file to establish who and what I owe, I was going to send out letters to all creditors to get the ball rolling... and this is where I found out I was issued a CCJ from Northampton (for Cabot) for a fee of exactly £500. The most frustrating thing about this is that I moved address (shocker) and did not receive any letters, my fault for not paying it anyway, but it was only issued 7 weeks ago. I called up, but they were closed - I was going to pay the full amount right there to sort it, but what's the point in paying the full amount right now when the CCJ will stay on my file for the next 6 years anyway (missing the months grace period to pay)

So, my questions - can I offer a settlement figure of say 50% for final settlement for me to then receive a certificate of satisfsction? I would rather not pay the entire amount so I can start clearing other debts.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Darren

I'd suggest speaking to StepChange or Citizens Advice. They'll be able to help you.
