My dp has recently changed job. With a big cut in income. I'm a sahm, have been since ds was born he's now 4. I'm also pregnant with dc 2.

We were advised to claim universal credit, but I have noticed that you need to sign up to a work commitment?? Is this right? Being pregnant and mum to an under five will I really be expected to look for work?
I planned on being a sahm till dc2 went to school or nursery. I know my dp will seek to find better paid work, but is this right??

No you wouldn't but your DH would be expected to attend occasional work focused meetings.

When your youngest reaches either 1 or 2 you would be asked to 'prepare for work' though I'm not entirely certain as to what this entails. Then once your youngest turns 3 you'd be expected to look for work

FYI - Even if he has a job, the work focused meetings are still required. They just focus on improving your skills/position etc and try to encourage you to climb the career ladder. As to how often they are, I'm not sure.
