Teacher-new mum-wondering if due tax rebate

Was just sitting here doing finances for the month and was thinking about whether I would be due a tax rebate as was on maternity leave between June 06 and Mid-Dec 07. Does anybody have any thoughts? Prob just wishful thinking on my behalf .

It's not too hard to work out. Do you know what your total income presumably including maternity pay and interest on savings was from April 2006 to April 2007? Then look at your P60 and what tax was actually paid and then work out what tax you should have paid and that will show if you're due a rebate.

Have not got P60 yet-Just wondering where it is actually!

Hi Mummynummum

From memory P60s don't have to be filed by companies until around June time.

You might be able to work out what tax was actually paid from your payslips (if you keep them, I am grossly negligent in this regard).

P60 should be with all employees by 19th May, so should have it by now

I'd say if you were employed by the same employer all year then you wouldn't be due a refund as tax etc is cumulative so would even out over the year. If you check your payslips for the period you were on ML you will probably find you got tax back.HTH

That does help, thankyou. I dont remember getting any back, but as said could be wishful thinking on my behalf!!!. Think will ask where P60 is.

Not sure I can find all wage slips-V negligent also in this regard.

The lat pay slip to end of tax year usually shows tax paid to date in that tax year. I would have thought when you work your employer takes off about a twelfth of the tax each month rather than loads of extra tax in advance which you then get back but always worth checking.
