Tax credits when you know circumstances will change

Just looking at my renewal. Currently on maternity leave and DH is working full time on just above minimum wage.

In September I'll be going back to work in the evenings and DH will continue to work full time but also be starting uni part time. He'll get a student maintenance grant/allowance and I'll have more money coming in as I'm only on maternity allowance.

So my question is, I know what my annual income will be but until sept, money is tight. Do I use annual income or current income?

Current. Then update in September

Thanks. The online renewal won't work at the moment so currently on hold

A change in income does not have to be reported within a certain time. If your circumstances change so you will get £2500 more or less income in the year you should tell them. If you don't you may get an overpayment. Here is govt info on reporting changes

You just have to try to estimate it as best you can for the year to avoid an overpayment.

Be aware that most student loans and grants are not considered income by tax credits (although they are by Universal Credit) - I think the only bit of mine that was taken into consideration was either the adult dependant grant or the childcare grant, can’t remember which one!
