Declined For A Mortgage

Hi
Hoping someone can pass on some advise, we were declined a mortgage last night due to failing the credit check. Obviously both shocked by this as our credit scores are in the 900s.

We paid for an in depth report through Experian, mine is clear but his is very confusing but what we can see is he has 6 financial associations with his ex wife, he knows absolutely nothing about these and can only think she has forged his signature in the past (something she is highly likely to have done).

So my question is how can we find out what these associations are (it doesn't give any info on the credit report) and also if they are the reason we got declined for a mortgage or something else has caused it?

Any help much appreciated

Thank you @Sleephead1 we will do but think we will wait for some sort of written confirmation from virigin media that they have acknowledged their mistake so when it crops up again the broker will have proof its not our fault

@frasier we were considering this but he is a bit reluctant to broadcast to everyone we got declined for a mortgage. Shall see what their response to my email is and if unsatisfactory go to social media x

I have also contacted Barclays this morning to see if they have some sort of appeal process we can go through, given we can prove we did nothing wrong and it's Virgin Media's mistake, the advisor we spoke to on Wednesday is going to call me today to discuss!

Credit checks refer to lenders looking over your credit report and what's on it - e.g. arrears, CCJs, applications and products you've taken out etc.

The credit score each Credit Referencing Agency gives you is irrelevant as all lenders use their own scoring system. What the lenders want to see is how you manage your credit, especially long-term, so that's what matters.

Some people have a score in the 900s despite having little history. I'm one of them, and I'm very limited in terms of the products I can take out, so the score doesn't really matter all that much. It's just an indication of how lenders might perceive you.

Financial association does NOT always mean identity theft. It can, but in this case I would doubt it. If your partner ever had any kind of joint finances or accounts with his ex, and he didn’t financially disassociate himself from her when they split then the association is still active and if she has a bad credit history then it will have had a knock on effect on to your partners, Unfortunately.

The best think he can do is file a notice of dis association with all the credit referencing agencies ASAP.

PS ignore your “score”, it’s a bull shit marketing tool made up by the credit referencing agencies. No one, inc lenders, sees it apart from you and them!

terrifying they can ruin lives for such a
trivial amount!

Not at all! If someone can’t be trusted to pay a £30 Bill, How can they be trusted with a 6 figure mortgage?

confusedpickle · 25/05/2018 15:07

@19lottie82 i think you have misunderstood maybe read my update again before you start being rude.
The account was closed and all paid up to date, we dont know where the figure of £39 came from but it's not a matter of 'being trusted' i can assure you!!
