Hi. I've noticed on the Clear Score website that they offer you a credit card called cashplus prepaid. which can help with your credit score. I thought about using it to buy the food shop then paying this off every month.
Mum not good with money so any advice is welcome.

It says it has a credit builder built in.

It's £6 per month.
No credit check needed.
It is also advertised on moneysupermarket.com

Thank you

I’ve just googled it,
It’s not a ‘credit’ card, it’s a prepaid MasterCard.
So you have to top it’s up to use it,
The £6 is basically an insentive, so you agree to top up at least £6 a month and they log it as a good, on time credit payment every month so it boosts your credit score.

Sorry that wasn’t super clear.

So the card is like a pocket money style card, from way back when, you top it up with £X and then can use it as you would a normal debit/credit card, but you can only spend the £X that you put into it, there is no credit, hence why it doesn’t require a credit check.

I meant Boost obviously not Boo.

So I could transfer the food budget onto it and then just use that card to buy the food?

It will increase your credit rating score but you have to pay the £6 to use it?

Firstly ignore your “score” it’s made up by the credit referencing agency. No one sees it but you and them, so it’s essebtially made up and worthless.

What’s important is your credit history, is do oh have a previous good relationship with credit? Any late payments ect? Are you on the electoral register?

I can’t see how this card can do you any favours when it comes to improving your appeal to lenders as you’re not taking out any credit. You will be throwing £6 a month down the drain.

Your best option would be to get a sub prime credit card (aqua?) and use it for a small amount each month , say £50, and PT it off in FULL each month. But never use it if you can’t afford to pay it off as the APR % (interest) is horrendous. But this doesn’t apply if it’s paid in full each month.

Thank you I'll look into that x
