Initial childcare costs

Hello All,

I am looking for a bit of advice.

I completed my degree at Christmas, it has taken until now to find a qualified position, which has been a extremely stressful time with my partner trying to support the family but wages not covering and we have fallen behind on some bills, however I have loved the time with my 19 month DD.

I have now been offered a full time position and have found a nursery who have availability for the 3 1/2 days I need. The childcare will cost us £997 per month. I need to pay the nursery a deposit as well as a month in advance for childcare. It has taken me a long time to find a nursery that has a current vacancy so I can't risk loosing it.

However I have no money until after being employed for a month and I will not start for another 2 weeks.

I am happy to work and I'm so happy that we will get our finances straight....but I can now see the difficulty of gaining a job if you have children. I need to start work to earn money for the nursery fee's but can't start work until I have childcare for my little one.

My partner has asked to take holiday during this time but his work cannot allow him to as they are very short staffed at the minute.

My MIL lives 36miles away but has offered to help 1 day help a week but as I found out prior to Christmas traffic meant she struggled to get here before 9am (hence the 3 1/2 days needed at nursery)

My disabled mother has offered to help 1 day a week for the foreseeable future...and has offered to do 3 days for the first month but She is tired for days after even a day of looking after my little one I can't impose 3 days on her.

Then there is the issue that I may loose this space if I wait 6 weeks to confirm and pay.

I know I am lucky to have any family support at all and am so grateful for that. I do not get an option of starting a part time job in my post qualification year, and it would not be possible for me to return to work without them.

Is there any help or advice that can be offered with this predicament?

Thank you xxx

Will the childcare be affordable once your wage is coming in?
I'd ring the nursery and find out if they can offer any kind of payment plan. It sounds like it's either that or a loan/credit card of some sort!
Have you checked if you are eligible for child tax credits for some of the childcare costs? That could build some slack in the system to pay back any loan.
This stuff is so stressful!!! I really feel for you!!

Where's your partner in this re the funding?
Why is it all on your wages?
