Loss assessors for a burglary

Has anyone used the above?

We were burgled last week.

Lots of old, mainly gold, jewellery taken, sentimental things - but inherited - therefore no receipts. I have some photos of me wearing them and have found similar items for sale online. Plus quite a lot of cash was taken.

Insurance co are sending out a loss adjuster. Do you think it's worth me hiring a loss assessor so I don't get short changed by theloss adjusters?

Why pay twice for the same thing?

See what the insurers loss adjustor says and if you don't agree then you can get an independent to look at it from there.

Did you have the jewellery insured? If it was on your valuation certificate it should be quite straight forward.

Yeah I think I should probably wait and see what they say and then if I disagree contact a loss assessor. I didn't have the individual items named - it was a lot of low value items.

Sorry you've been burgled I know how shit it is.

Our insurance tried to pay us with jewellery vouchers or HALF that sum in cash. Do not stand for this, you are entitled to the whole amount in cash. They reckon this is fair because they have bulk buying power. But it is bullshit.

I honestly felt more robbed by the insurance trying to not pay out than i did by the bastard burglars. Be strong.

Agent the insurers will have deals with high street jewellers for the vouchers.

If you have a trusted local jeweller, they CAN receive a slightly reduced voucher amount from the insurer if they've opted in. But given that you're not paying stupid chain prices it's still better money wise plus you're supporting a business that you respect.

I ended up getting the full amount in cash..i didn't want to replace the jewellery but I wanted what it was worth financially. There is no point buying e.g. a necklace that's not the one granny bought. Every time you wear it you'd remember being burgled not your granny.
