Help re: Time off work for childs critical illness

My sisters partner has a 14 year old son who has recently been diagnosed with Lukaemia. He has been in hospital having Chemo and my sisters partner goes to see him twice a week and spends all weekend with him (with his mum being there on the other days).

Anyway my question is what are his rights with work and time off??

He was given 6 days compassionate leave and had to use his holiday entitlement for the 2 days per week he was having off (tues&thurs). The hospital is about an hours and halfs drive away so its not like he can just pop there after work.

His holiday has run out and his sons condition is getting worse but his employers are saying he isnt allowed any further time off.

Any ideas what he should do now?
Thanks in advance

No advice, but what an unsympathetic employer!! Hope someone has advice for you.

Am appalled at employer.
Name and shame.
Is there a union he can go to? If not member of a union then perhaps local Citizens Advice could point him in the right direction...

And perhaps when all this is over he should find another employer.

Go to GP and get long term sick leave with stress.

Mum2FunkyDude · 16/05/2007 13:20

What about unpaid leave?

JARM · 16/05/2007 13:21

Agree with seeing GP and being signed off.

Unpaid leave might be an option.

I gather they don't have any critical illness cover? If they do that might cover the child and any loss of earnings.

Long term sick leave from his own GPs for his own stress and upset.

Speak to his union or CAB for further advice.
