Buying a house

Due to a long term abusive rship & putting myself through uni as a mature student I have minimal savings & have always wanted a home of my own. I'm now married & we both work f/t earning £50k between us. We're in our mid 40s. Should I give up hope of ever being able to buy a home? Would we get an affordable mortgage? I've always felt ashamed of not getting married in my 20s & settling down like friends who have now nearly paid off mortgages. I didn't have a wild time, just no specific career development or stable rships until now. We rent in a HA area as private rents are v high in our area & I got social housing when I was in my 20s. We would be prepared to relocate if it meant a chance of owning a home. thoughts/suggestions appreciated. tia

Do you have a deposit or any scope to save one? How are your credit scores? Income alone would be enough to get a decent mortgage but there are lots of other factors.

Justwaitingforaline we are trying to save but it's slow. No deposit yet. Generally I think we have good credit scores. I have a car loan as which ends next year which will free up more - struggling to save much more than £2k a year . You can't buy even a small house here for less than around £180k.
