Have also posted this on lone parents board

I'm recently divorced and am considering reverting to my maiden name. Is this difficult to do? Any ideas how to go about it - bank acct, passport etc? Is it more trouble than it's worth?

I did it and it's very easy. My solicitor just drew up the document for me and I signed it. The she made a number of copies and stamped them.
I haven't yet changed my passport and don't intend to until I have to renew it. It's very easy at the bank and pretty much everywhere - just show the document and they will change it. Most bills can just be changed over the phone.

ditto what popple said - I changed mine to dis-associate myself with my father - had change of name deed drawn up at solicitors, cant remember it costing very much although it was 8 years ago - less than £50 I think, he made about 5 copies, signed and witnessed them all, then I just had to send these away to passport, credit cards etc..

The only thing I found was the major organisations changed it over no problem - it was the piss pot places like the video shop that required 7 letters, 4 fone calls and an advert in the paper to change it.

i've been pondering this too, but then i wondered how my kids would feel if i changed my name

they might think i am rejecting them as well iyswim

Thanks all. I will contact my solicitor tomorrow, Sounds really atraightforward.

Lou33 - you are quite right and to be honest that is THE major drawback. My daughter is adamant that she wants the same surname as me. She is 7. However I think she is too young to make this decision so may ignore her and go ahead and change my name. My married surname is very unusual and therefore makes me feel a little fraudulent when I say Mrs .....

Thanks again. Very useful
