Has anyone got an endowment maturing soon? Are you expecting to be disappointed?

Mine's up next year. Been forecast a shortfall pretty much every year since I took it out! It's for £46,000, but I'm expecting nearer £30,000. Anyone else?

Who is it with, someone else may have had a similar one mature with same company recently.

I had an Aviva policy mature last July, full amount was 24.5k, I got around 23.5, so not much shortfall.

Also had 2 mature in about 2011, predicted amount of 31k jointly, got about 29k, so again not a massive shortfall.

There are usually final bonuses added as well as the ongoing ones. You should get a final estimate about 6wks before, mine was pretty spot on.

Oh, that's good to hear! Mine is with Prudential.

My mum wad with prudential, and her endowment was nearly 5k short, so not even enough to pay off the mortgage, but she had known it was going to be short for years.

skippy67 · 24/04/2018 12:19

£5k shortfall wouldn't be too tragic. Still annoying though! Anyone else?

Watching with interest, I've got 18 months to go on mine with Scottish Amicable. It was supposed to pay 32 , I haven't a clue what I'll actually get.

Anyone else?

Stopped ours years ago when it was publicised that it wasnt worth carrying on with and remortgaged/2nd mortgaged to a completely repayment one.

skippy67 · 27/04/2018 13:34

Mine is not mortgage related so takes a bit of the pressure off!

Not sure ours was tbh; we started it a year before we bought a house.....I was only 18!!

mayhew · 29/04/2018 17:58

Ours was supposed to be £58k to pay off mortgage. We swapped to repayment years ago but kept the endowment limping on. Red letters warned us we might only get £35k, but we carried on as nearly term. Got £47k at the end and were pleasantly surprised, they managed our expectations well,

RingtheBells · 01/05/2018 18:34

We had one with Pheonix originally Sun Life I think and it was meant to pay out £50k, it paid of £57k, Smile. We had already paid down £10k of mortgage in case of shortfall and ended up with a bit extra

Land0r · 01/05/2018 19:49

We had all the shortfall letters over the years so didn't have high expectations on our endowment that was maturing after 25 years. The original aim was for 30k and we actually got £34k last month, so we were very surprised! We have another smaller one maturing in July - fingers crossed for more of the same!

skippy67 · 01/05/2018 23:27

Ooh, that's encouraging!

I have a “with profits” endowment with Aviva, maturing sept 2020. Had lots of red letters predicting shortfalls. Aiming for £33 K and been forecast for £23K. Have thought of cashing in early but maybe won’t now due to PP positive experiences. It’s no longer required to pay the mortgage.

Proofisinthe · 01/05/2018 23:56

@eggncress We also have an Aviva with profits endowment. We got an IFA to look at it last year to see if we would be better off cashing it in and reducing our mortgage balance then overpaying our mortgage by the amount of our endowment premium.

He advised us that we would be better off keeping the endowment because of the shortfall promise Aviva has and because Aviva with profits are one of the better performing endowments.

eggncress · 02/05/2018 00:47

@Proofisinthe thanks for the heads up. Good to get some positive feedback in contrast to the continual red warning letters. It’s almost like they want us to surrender or cash in earlyHmm
I think I am keeping it now.

Land0r · 02/05/2018 07:35

Sorry, didn't say - ours was Friends Life. (Well not originally, I think there have been several takeovers, mergers etc of companies over 25 years!)

pimmy2000 · 17/06/2019 11:08

my endowment policy is due to end in October if I ended it now would I loose a lot of money
