What's the best value of these different size washing powders?

Can someone please help me work out which is the best value washing powder?
1088g £1.00
2.6 kg £3.49
8.4kg £15.99

Trying to improve my finances and the different amounts of powder is confusing. I actually I may be dyslexic when it comes to maths

The smallest one (by my workings out at least!)

1088g @ £1 = 0.92 per Kg
2.6kg @ £3.49 = £1.34 per kg
8.4kg @ £15.99 = £1.90 per kg

drspouse · 23/04/2018 16:40

Convert them to kg
1088 = 1.088kg
2.6kg = 2.6
8.4kg = 8.4

Divide price by the weight (use a calculator unless you are super at mental arithmetic which I am not)
Answers are in £ per kg (as above)

dementedpixie · 23/04/2018 16:42

Is that the actual prices? The smallest one is the best value which is unusual.

Assuming you need the same measurement per wash?

I know it’s not your question but if you are looking for a value for money washing powder then I use this one and it’s brilliant. It’s free delivery so no lugging heavy boxes around and I always get more than 200 washes out of it as I don’t always use the full amount on lighter soiling.

Thank you so much!!

I thought the smaller one and thought well that's odd and can't be right and I get muddled so easily.

Yes these are the actual prices from poundstretcher & Home Bargains.

I'm better off getting lots of small boxes. I always tend to use he same scoop so I'm really pleased.

Thanks again

Sorry the link didn’t show properly, this is the same product through Amazon though a bit more expensive.

Hi cherry I'm sure you know this but when you looked at the price was there some small print next to it at the bottom. This usually tells tell y you how much things are by the kilo. Sometimes depending on the item you can have two similar things but one label may say price per 100g and the next item will have price per kilo! You need to stay alert in these supermarkets!!

BothersomeCrow · 23/04/2018 19:13

A lot of products seem to be more expensive in the larger packets now. Also watch out for the 'special offer' packs which are still more expensive than a different size not on offer. Or the environmentally friendly saving refills which are more expensive than glass jars...

CherryBlossomSeason · 23/04/2018 21:52

Thanks again. They are so sly and it works with people like me who get frazzled and just need powder!

Thanks for the recommendation, found the powder on the original link.

@notacooldad there wasn't from what I saw. I'm used to this in Asda and it really helps. Maybe the budget shops purposely don't do it

The only other thing to consider sometimes is whether you are comparing on a like-for-like basis. So if these are different washing powders rather than different sizes of the same one, do they recommend roughly the same amounts per wash?
