I now get PIP, what other help can I get?

Apologies if I'm not posting in the right section, I wasn't quite sure.
I now qualify and get PIP.
I hate that i need it and I'm struggling to accept it.
Money really does still remains an issue so any advice about where to go now would be appreciated please.
I know I can get a disabled train card to get 1/3 off and I know I can get a cinema card to take a carer free.
Anything else I should know?
Thank you in advance.

Unless the rules have changed you can work 16hrs a week and claim working tax credits compared with someone who is not claiming Pip

notabee · 23/04/2018 22:35

Sorry I should've said, I do get some working tax credits as I work 16 hours a week and I'm on my own with my dc. Thank you.

Bus pass
Council tax reduction
Housing benefit if needed

tiredgranny · 23/04/2018 22:44

If high mobility car tax free

There's a handy note here:
www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/before-claiming/extra-help-pip-entitles-you-to/

It might be worth booking an appointment with the CAB to do a benefits check so they can run through your situation and check you're claiming everything you're entitled to.

You should be able to get a higher amount of Working Tax Credit but I don't know whether you need to inform HMRC and whether this will be affected by the move to Universal Credit - again, CAB may be best placed to advise.

VIrtual any attraction , and theatre , concert venue etc will let a carer in free on production of pip letter.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/04/2018 22:46

*virtually.

No fees in late library books , which is a bit random. May be council specific.

dotdotdotmustdash · 23/04/2018 22:49

Maybe a Cplus1 bus pass?

I believe you can get a road tax reduction of 50% if you use your own car and get the standard rate mobility component.

myviolet · 24/04/2018 01:24

In my council we get free swimming at council pools, and discounted gym membership - check your council's website for their policy.

I get a free bus pass for myself, our council doesn't offer a free carer bus pass but some do.

If someone cares for you for 35+ hours a week (doesn't have to be physical care) and earns under £116 a week, they can claim carers allowance, which can allow them to access other benefits as well.

Someone can claim carers credits for you if they care for you for 20+ hours a week - no money for them or you, but they can get NI credits towards a state pension.

I get £140 a year warm home discount but criteria depends on your energy supplier.

notabee · 24/04/2018 09:38

Wow, that's a massive help, thank you all!
I had no idea you could get a reduction on road tax, I assumed as I get standard mobility I wouldn't get any help with that.
I'll look into all the other suggestions too.
I don't have a carer although one of my DC does help with certain things. I'm also looking for someone (paid) to help with a few other things but that's obviously what PIP is for.
Thank you again!

Re discount for a carer, they just have to be aged 16 or over although sometimes 14 is ok. They do not need to be an official carer in receipt of carers allowance for a free ticket at attractions, concerts etc.
