Any suggestions of how to make money from home?

I am not working at the moment because of a chronic condition. I have tried working full time but it's not really possible with this condition. I am not claiming any benefits and do not want to do this either. We are financially ok ish because of my husbands job, a lot of the house is paid off from inheritance and I have some small savings.

But I would like to be a bit more independent again and be able to bring some money in. Not mega bucks, just a bit to keep things ticking over. I have recently started selling things on e-bay and I'm doing quite well. I'm also in the process of setting up a small business selling things online.

Does anyone have any more ideas of ways to make money either working from home or that would not require many hours out of the house? As I am unable to work long hours with this condition. Please don't suggest benefits as this is not a route I want to go down. This is not in judgement of anyone claiming benefits who needs them but just personal choice of the position I am in at this time.

Thank you Smile

There are threads on here about matched betting.
Some are making a fair bit of money.
I'd do it but can't quite get my head around it!

glowinglady · 23/04/2018 12:10

Thank you @Cassimin I have never heard of that before so will have a look into it.

Amazon online arbitrage. Watch some YouTube videos on it. I’ve got an Amazon seller account it’s very easy to set up. I buy things on offer or clearance and send them off to amazon warehouse normally for at least double why I buy for. Example paid 6.49 in shop and sold on amazon for £23.99. I normally buy 10 - 20 of something at one time

Ellasshitholekitchenpjpiigp · 23/04/2018 12:16

If you send it to Amazon, ie it’s fulfilled by amazon (FBA) it gets sent as Prime delivery!

glowinglady · 23/04/2018 12:22

Thanks Ella will have a look into that as well!

There are some market research companies that actively prefer their interviewers to call from home (as it saves them overheads). You need to have a decent laptop and decent broadband speed, and be reasonably confident speaking to strangers over the phone, but it's fairly straightforward money, and they are usually zero-hours contracts so they don't care if you don't work full time, as they only pay you for the hours you do work.

(Market research is interviews, not selling, BTW.)

I do online surveys through 3 different companies, Qmee, Valued Opinions and Prolific. Qmee and Prolific you can be paid via PayPal so cash, Valued Opinions is a choice of voucher I usually go for Amazon as you can just about buy anything from there. They also have Supermarket vouchers.
So far this year I have made £200 from Valued Opinions including £60 for one 1 hr focus group. £130 from Qmee and £80 from Prolific I save it all for Xmas and then spend whats left in the Jan sales.
My advice for surveys is not to wait until they send you an email with a survey, check the site regularly. I usually check before work, lunch, after work and again in an evening when I'm on laptop anyway. And always cash out to vouchers/paypal as soon as you can the last thing you want to do is have £500 in an account and the company go under and you lose the lot

Have you ever sold travel? It's a good way to make money working from home.

Mosaic123 · 26/04/2018 09:03

Take in a lodger? Look at the government's HRMC website, the Rent-a-room section. You can earn £7,500 tax free.

TheIsland · 26/04/2018 09:09

I make about £200 pm on matched betting. I don’t put in any great effort though

Ironing? PA type services?

ItWentInMyEye · 26/04/2018 09:17

Panelbase is good, I've made £80 from it just doing the odd survey/product test and kept the money saving.

Tillytoodles could you expand on this please.
ArcheryAnnie - could you recommend any market research companies.
I'm looking for some extra income. Thankyou

andadietcoke · 26/04/2018 20:16

M3 Global Research is a market research company that specialises in healthcare - as you have a chronic condition you could be eligible to do surveys for them. I signed up with Ipsos a while ago too but they give you credits not cash.

Crowd · 26/04/2018 20:31

Think selling travel is MLM.

I'm making around £200-£400 a month and could do more if I could be bothered from matched betting.

I found yes bets very helpful, yes it's £14.99 a month but you can cover that and more in your first day. I didn't get on with odds monkey.

Crowd · 26/04/2018 20:31

Btw, Cheltenham Festival week I cleared around £800.

Wollstonecraft1 · 26/04/2018 20:42

What is selling travel?

Lovemusic33 · 26/04/2018 20:44

Another vote for match betting, my ex dh used to do it when we were together and made quite a bit.

ArcheryAnnie · 27/04/2018 11:23

Mary1935 you can look through here, as these are all members of the Market Research Society, the industry's regulatory body, and so therefore not (I hope) dodgy:

list of market research companies
