Student loans repayment

My son as N Ireland student attended university in England and has usual repayments regarding this: However threshold in NIreland is lower as fees are lower. This has resulted in him paying tuition fees on lower threshold even though he has incurred higher fees from uni in England-N Ireland student loan company don’t appear to have made allowances for higher fees studying in England
Anyone else experienced this?

No but maybe contact the student room for advice.

I know someone who has.

Unfortunately this is what happens when you choose to study somewhere which is more expensive. The NI student finance set the repayment threshold regardless of where you study.

It's harsh I know to realise this after you've graduated, but it is clear that this is what happens. The choice was there to study somewhere cheaper but he chose somewhere more expensive with a lower limit for repayment and, yes I appreciate that chose isn't necessarily the right word as sometimes there is no choice in where you study particular subjects.

Ok thanks for replies- he couldn’t study course in N Ireland, seems unfair but hey ho life isn’t. I guess he will have to take view he’s repaying at faster rate

I do understand. Same thing happened to the person I know as well. Not that it's much comfort!

You could also say it’s unfair that if you live in Scotland and study in Scotland there are no fees.
