How long for things to kick in?

This may be an oft asked question, but I can't find any answers.

I'm living alone now after finally getting my ex to move out. I am claiming IS and CTC because I can't work right now due to being vastly pregnant and having no childcare for my daughter. I have no other income and am starting to get a bit worried as food is running low and I'm wondering how long it takes for them to decide what and when to pay you. I have had my interview with the jobcentre, over a week ago now. I just need to know when I'm going to be able to buy food and pay the bills

Roll on September 08 when I can give this lark up and go back to uni.

Thanks in advance for any info you might have.

Agnes

Have you got the TC yet?
You can go and get a giro for them if not from your local Tax office.

Sorry but no idea on the rest of the benefits.

charliecat · 13/05/2007 22:12

You can get a crisis loan, they will want to see evidence of empty bank accounts etc.
Its not the job centre that deals with it...its the...oh no idea what its called, the social security place, but its not called that anymore. Seperate from the jobcentre where I live anyway.

MrsWho · 13/05/2007 22:36

maybe a bit cheeky but has your dd hot any savings you can access ? as some of the benefits can be affected by thta?(they expect you to use her money up first )

agnesnitt · 13/05/2007 23:08

Daughter has got her trust fund and nothing else. I have three pounds in bank. Have been told not eligible for a crisis loan as 'due to being a lone parent, you are entitled to things, so they'll not give you a crisis loan'.

Gaaaaaaah!

I've enough food in the house to last till Thursday, if I've heard nothing by then I'm ringing them all up and raising merry hell.

Thanks for the help

Agnes

You have been in touch with Tax Credits yes? And you get child benefit? ANYONE is entitled to a crisis loan. If theres a crisis and ran out of food is a crisis. The crisis has to have happened BTW, so go 2 days earlier and say you have RAN OUT of food, say you have a gas prepayment card and an electric one and you have no money on either.
Rent due etc.

Child benefit ?

charliecat · 14/05/2007 17:29

are you asking me what child benefit is or if Agnes gets it?

LIZS · 14/05/2007 17:33

asking Agnes if she has it - should buy a day or two's food.

charliecat · 14/05/2007 17:34

or a week or twos if you are used to being skint

agnesnitt · 14/05/2007 23:37

Child benefit was two weeks ago, and is what bought the food we're currently eating

Mum and dad have come to the rescue and have sent a little cash for us to top up on the staples with. I was just starting to panic. I hate having to ask for help, am too stubborn for my own good >_<

I got a form today for healthy start vouchers, so should be able to apply for those to make sure we have milk in the house

I'm sure in a month or two I shall look back and wonder why I was hyperventilating about it all, but being 30+ weeks pregnant is all about being paranoid.

Thanks again folks.

So any you any further with tax credits or Income Support?
Ring Tax Credits and explain you have No MONEY.
Glad your parents helped you out
Theres a surestart maternity grant or something available to you as well for you having the baby?????? Anyone reading like to give some more info on that? Long time since I had a baby

agnesnitt · 15/05/2007 16:13

I printed off the sure start form today, am going to need that for a pram and so on, as the one I had for my daughter has served two babies to toddlerhood and is due a spot in a pram retirement home now

The money mum sent will keep us in grub till next week, but if I have heard nothing by the end of tomorrow I am going to be making a very polite phonecall to see exactly where things stand and ask for the emergency payment to be put into operation as I cannot allow my parents to support me as they have their own needs.

Roll on September 08 when I can get off this particular merry-go-round

You sound upbeat And housing benefit and council tax benefit if you rent.
Also www.entitleto.co.uk should give you a rough idea of what you will get...and MAKE SURE they have ended your tax credit joint claim as if hes still getting WTC you are jointly liable for that claim.
