Confused! How much rent to pay after notice?

Hello everyone, I get so confused with all of this! My Stepdad has tried to explain but I still need clarification please lol. We pay our rent on the 1st of each month. We are giving our months notice on Tuesday (17th). So I'm wondering how much rent we will pay on 1st May? As we will be moving out on the 17th May and we would've given the months notice. So do we just pay rent from 1st May to the 17th May? If so, how much would we pay? We pay £650 a month rent. Thank you in advance!

I thought notice had to be given the same day as rent payment? So even if you wanted to leave the 17th you pay the full amount on the first. I might be totally wrong though

If your landlord has accepted that the month can end on 17th month:

then the payment would be £650 x 12months divided by 365 days x 17 days
ie. £363.28.

Pressed too soon. However the ast may state that notice has to be given on the day of the month that the ast began ie. if it began on 1st then notice would only end on the final day of a month.

As I am a nice landlord I would accept a mid month end if required and if it had been too late for them to cancel standing orders etc I would refund the overpayment.

Unless you can come to an arrangement with your LL, your notice will kick in on the next rent date (1st June), then you will pay a month as normal and move out a month later. Standard terms of an AST agreement / lease doesn’t allow you to exit mid month.

But as I said your LL may be willing to negotiate, but they aren’t under any obligation to do so.

Thank you for all of your replies.

Our LL is a friend of the family so I am hoping he will be ok with the mid month end. He is aware we have been looking as we have had a baby so he knows we need a bigger place now we have two children.

If he accepts this thank you for the figure Allthebestnamesareused- I'm awful at maths so thank you! And yes you're definitely a very nice reasonable LL!

Thank you all
