Hi all, I currently work 20+ hours a week, my daughter is 11 months and I went back when she was 8 months old. I work in a very stressful job which I'm struggling to cope with along with being a single mum and running a household by myself on top of my daughter's health condition. I have every intention of finding another job asap but does anyone know if i resign would I be immediately entitled to Income support or would I have to wait a certain amount of time? It would only be for a very short amount of time until I found something new

Thanks all

If you have paid national insurance you may be able to claim contributions based JSA but I think it depends where you are in the country.

What is your company's sickness policy? Would some time signed off with stress help?

I'm entitled to Income Support due to DS being disabled. Whenever I've had to quit a job I've been able to claim straight away, no waiting. I've never claimed Universal Credit though so the rules might be different in a universal credit area.

I think if you leave without good reason you can't claim for 3 months
It may be different if you have a child, but I wouldn't bank on it

Short answer is yes.

If you are a lone parent with a child under 5 then you can claim Income support. If your area is a full service Universal credit area then you may claim that instead.

Insancerre
The 3 month only applies to JSA. OP has a child under the age of 5 so can claim income support.

Thanks for all your replies. I work with adults with aggressive challenging behaviour and am finding it very difficult to deal with work related injuries from that and looking after my young daughter as a single parent plus the impact it has on my mental health. I would prefer to leave this area of work now so a small amount of time off wouldn't really solve my problem. I've worked since I was 16 so I'm not wanting benefits for an easy life and really do intend on getting a new more manageable job asap. I'm gonna contact the job centre and ask what my options are today. Thank you all
