Child benefit for more children

I am just asking if anyone knows if my Niece can get child benefit for more children. She already has 2 small children, but now expecting twins. Is there a cut point.

She can get child benefit for her twins and one extra child for child tax credits. There is usually a two child limit for child tax credit however if there are twins they will increase it to three.

Quartz2208 · 08/04/2018 16:21

Yes 2 children (unless you have 1 and then twins)

I thought the tax credits stopped at 2 children? Which he already has so wouldn’t get any more for the twins.

Ullupullu · 08/04/2018 16:26

There is no cap on child benefit as far as I know.

Child tax credits are something separate. People seem to confuse and conflate the two.

Thanks for the replies. I think I have got confused. Tax credits I meant. Had a disagreement with sister. As I said Niece boyfriend needs to get a job to support them. He is able but wants to stay at home as does niece, she tried working but kept being off sick.

With tax credits/universal credit the cut off is 2 children so I don't think she will get anymore for the twins as she already has 2 kids. I don't think child benefit has a cut off but I may be wrong.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 08/04/2018 16:37

2 children for tax credits so she won't get any extra for the twins afaik. All children for child benefit still.

This link may help.

Child benefit is 20odd quid for the first child and then about £13 for subsequent children. As long as individual earnings are under 50k a year.

As pp have advised, they are eligible for tax credits for 2 children, but under new legislation subsequent children are disregarded.

As for 'he is able but wants to stay at home.' Hmm
Sounds like he needs to give his head a wobble.

phoenix1973 · 08/04/2018 16:48

I think they'll give for One twin. With triplets they'll give for 2 kids.
That's in addition to the 2 kid standard cut off (if you mean child benefit). Additional births after April 2017.

So does she by the sound of it.

People are getting confused between child benefit and child tax credits. There is no cut off point for child benefit AFAIK. But the limit is two children for child tax credits. And in some circumstances increased to three if the second child is twins but not if the third child is twins. That's my understanding of the rules.

some serious arse in gear needed here, firstly with contraception as they will soon have four small children, then with financial planning and marriage.

because if nothing-but-sperm-donor gets bored, she has NOTHING.

Donotbequotingmeinbold · 09/04/2018 21:33

Childcare for 4 DC might be much more than he can earn and looking after twin babies and 2 other small children is probably not a lazy option. Why does he need to wobble his head?

Donotbequotingmeinbold · 09/04/2018 21:35

Oh, forget that. I thought he was going to be a sahp whilst she worked to support them. Missed the bit about her being at home too.

BrieAndChilli · 09/04/2018 21:35

Because presumably she won’t be working either? So someone in the family needs to work!!
