Worried about universal credit

I am a lone parent to DS (2) and due dc2 in July. I work 18 hours a week and pay for 2 days of nursery. Due to low income and childcare costs I currently get tax credits of just over £200 a week. I have looked at entitled2 for what might happen after next week and I’m terrified.

I’m going on mat leave end of June until next April so my income will only be around £2.5k plus 39 weeks of Maternity Allowance. But my area changed to a UC full service area from May so changing my circumstances (adding baby in July) will move me under natural migration and I won’t get the payment protection. My payments will halve if this happens and if I stop sending DS to nursery I’ll get even less. Is there anyway of adding baby to my claim without being moved under ‘natural migration’ and waiting until ‘managed migration’ after 2019 when I will be at work so earning a bit more? I’m so worried Sad

Can you claim child maintenance from the other parent ?

PersianCatLady · 02/04/2018 11:22

You don't say if the Children have the same father but as PP said could you or will you get any CM for the new child?

He doesn’t pay now, I’ve tried CMS but because he is self employed it seems like he will get away with it Sad

How did you end up with those amounts? They really don’t look correct.

MyDcAreMarvel · 02/04/2018 11:54

Credit (with or without WTC) and have another child or go from 2 to 1 Remain on Tax Credit and continue to claim Child Tax Credit Choice - remain on adjusted 'legacy benefits' or claim Universal Credit if you will be better off (note: you can't currently claim UC if you have 3 or more children).

That’s from entitled to, you can choose to stay on tax credits.
