Starting self employed on child tax

Hi,

My dh works FT and I'm currently a SAHM after being made redundant. We claim child tax credits although we don't get alot per month we do heavily rely on it.
I have the opportunity to start work self employed but will take a while to build up and earn equal/more than our child tax credit award.
I'm wondering when so I need to tell HMRC that I am earning and when will they stop my payment.

When I start I could be earning as little as £20 per week and might not ways be regular depending on clients and how many I get.

TIA
