Pension help

I'm 32, earn a decent salary (£55k) but don't pay into a pension. Awful I know. Well I do now have a work pension which started when my company legally had to last year, but the amount going in is pitiful (think £60 a month or something)

The reason I don't have one is because I just don't know how to start setting one up. can anyone help please?

My work one is with The People's Pension if that helps. I think I can increase the amount I pay in to there, or I could set up a brand new one.

Please could someone give any advice?! It makes me so anxious not having one

It's a good idea to ask a financial advisor

You can use an IFA or you can get one yourself. DH both pay into pensions at work but we've got private pensions too. All we needed to do is set up a SIPP account with an online investment platform (we chose You Invest). You pay in your contributions, they sort out basic tax refund with the HMRC (rest of tax is refunded when you fill out your self assessment).

The tricky bit is then picking the investments for your SIPP. I'm quite a fan of the books and guides published by the Financial Times but if you feel it's too much to get your head around, then an IFA would be a better choice. Or you can research the terms and conditions of your work pension to see if it's worth paying more in through them.
