Hi I have dyslexia and autism so I'm really struggling.

I need advice.

Can I consolidate these insurance payments? If so how?

Home insurance £32.05
Boiler £23.05
Washer and fridge insurance £16.17
Kids iPads £6.95

I need insurance as I don't have spare money incase anything breaks.

£81.67 I've just added it up.

We are really struggling with bills and I'm looking for work.

How old is boiler, wm and fridge?
I've never had these things insured.
Is there an excess on ipad insurance?

louise5754 · 28/02/2018 10:43

Sorry it's not an iPad I wrote that wrong just a cheap £60 tablet

louise5754 · 28/02/2018 10:44

Everything is 8 years old

I've just phoned the home insurers. The boiler would be an extra £50 and they only cover the washer and fridge in a fire not if they break down. I'm so confused I can't handle these things😞

why are you insuring £60 tablets? if you put the money away every month you could have the savings for a new one- also have you checked whether there is an excess on any of your policies?

You can always pick up free/cheap 2nd hand fridges/freezers on FB/Gumtree

Personally I would keep the boiler cover and just put the rest of the money away each month

italiancortado · 28/02/2018 10:49

Boiler cover is vital. Especially for people who haven't got a lot of spare cash. I pay £22.50 with Scottish gas.

The only other one of those I have is house insurance. I pay around £10 a month for buildings and contents. I would look at that and see if you can get a better deal.

louise5754 · 28/02/2018 10:49

We only have two £60 tablets they've had them 3 years

OP posts:
JustaBasicBitch · 28/02/2018 10:50

Is this a standard home insurance? surely you just pay for the total value of contents in the house, say £20,000.

I know you would need to specify tablets as you take them out but I strongly suspect you will have an excess of at least £50- so no point

louise5754 · 28/02/2018 10:50

This is the thing how do I look around lol sorry

OP posts:
louise5754 · 28/02/2018 10:51

We don't have an excess on the tablets

user187656748 · 28/02/2018 10:52

The tablet insurance is a waste of money if theyre just cheap £60 pads.

louise5754 · 28/02/2018 10:55

I know but they break them a hell of a lot so it's worked out better. I couldn't just buy them a new one

OP posts:
louise5754 · 28/02/2018 10:55

I'm looking for work if I had a job I could easily buy them

OP posts:
spagbol11 · 28/02/2018 11:15

I have home insurance the contents and buildings, includes fridge, washer, boiler, carpets,TVs everything including the structure and it’s only £24 a month with direct line

louise5754 · 28/02/2018 11:20

I'm just so gutted. I want to cancel as much as I can.

Thank you for all your advice.

Use comparison sites like gocompare and money supermarket to try see if you can get them cheaper. A comparison is nearly always worthwhile

Outnumbered99 · 28/02/2018 12:41

Do you have someone in RL that can sit down with you and work these things out? a partner/sibling/parent? I understand a little of the getting overwhelmed with paperwork.
I would keep the boiler cover and the home insurance. Why are the kids breaking the tablet "a lot"? Can they be in better cases (you could buy one with a months premium?), only used when supervised, or sat down etc? My kids have tablets and know if they break them we cannot afford to replace them so are extremely careful.. they are very precious to them- are your kids old enough to understand that?

louise5754 · 02/03/2018 10:38

Hi thanks. I buy cases they take them off. To be honest a lot of the claims were to do with the tablets not turning on or freezing so not all their fault.

OP posts:
flirtygirl · 03/03/2018 14:08

If the tablets were just faulty then you can repair or replace for free under standard warranty, just keep receipts. No need for insurance for that.

whattheactualbleep · 03/03/2018 14:21

How old are your dc op?
My ds at 11 yrs old dropped and smashed her kindle fire. I had bought a proper not cheap protective case and cover and she had taken it off.
I did tell her if she took the cover off and broke it she would have to pay for her next one or have one for her birthday or Xmas and wait in between times.
She bought herself a new one from birthday money she had saved. Funnily enough she's had it for two years now and never broken this one as she takes more care of it.

louise5754 · 04/03/2018 15:09

5 and 7.

The only thing I'm thinking of cancelling is the appliance insurance?

My husband has stood on both tablets recently too so I think we need to keep that x
