how much extra can you earn(if any) without declaring it?...

dh works full time and i am a sahm.i would like to start up a small business from home to bring us in some more pocket money. we get childrens tax credit.does anybody know how much i can earn ? at what point do i tell inland rev? im not expecting to earn a lot, maybe £50 per month,its hard to know how much it will be at this stage and it will be seasonal work.does anybody know?

I think, to be all legal you are meant to tell them about everything, you wouldnt be taxed until you reached £5000 and something or other(your personal tax allowance), whatever it is this year, and CTC would be reduced by whatever you do earn, so it might not be worth it if its coming in one way and being reduced another

You have to tell them (preferably in advance) so that you are exempt from paying NI (the limit for earnings before you pay NI used to be slightly below the income tax personal allowance). There is a form that you will need to fill in every tax year.

I would also give the CTC people a ring and ask them to do a quote for your potential circumstances as the extra £50 a month may knock a hell of a lot of your CTC if you are just on a threshold level now. Sounds a bit airy fairy but I earned an extra £120 (in a year) two years ago and we ended up owing the CTC ovet £1000 as the extra £120 put us over the level for a drop in payments so for us it made us orse off
