Npower say that the Standing Order i have set up has not been recieved. that the sort code my bank has - isn't theirs and i must write to them with bank statement ( which i have)

Oh where is my £150?

How can i trace it? what can be done?

Surely your bank must know where it has been sending the money? I think the issue will be whether the bank made a mistake or you made a mistake and gave them the wrong sort code.

FiveFingeredFiend · 02/05/2007 12:04

The sort code is WILDY different. Not a slight mistake, not a mistake on my part. My statements clearly say "NPOWER" the money has gone.

How can it be traced?

Think it's your bank's problem (although convincing bloody utilities and banks that they should sort out their own stuff is a thankless task. Presumably this a regular payment which has always gone to the correct account previously, so why did your bank send it elsewhere this time? Or is it NPower - I thought direct debits were activated by the payee ie NPower contacts your bank to get funds?

Sorry, not being v. helpful but definitely put the onus on your bank to trace what they did, which account they paid into, and to get the money back. They can transfer DD payments back fairly easily.

ruddynorah · 02/05/2007 13:49

is it a direct debit or a standing order?

did you set it up or did npower set it up?

if it's a standing order and it's 'named' npower that means nothing at all. you could name it flipflop if you really wanted to. the name is for your benefit so you know it on your statement.

if it is a standing order ask your bank for the original form you completed, then you can check the details you gave them.

if this has been set up a while, then why hasn't npower told you earlier they didn't get any money from you?

usually npower would want a direct debit, not a standing order.

ruddynorah · 02/05/2007 13:50

btw. your bank will be able to trace where your money has gone. this isn't difficult.

i used to be a bank manager.

FiveFingeredFiend · 02/05/2007 15:08

Phew! i am off to phone them. It's def a standing order. Npower were a new supplier in february.

Thanks ruddy, spurred on by your post i phoned bank and they told me it was a NAT WEST sort code and that i should phone them as they would be considered a third party. After finding number and being on hold for ages (yet again) they said that my bank should deal with it and my bank should know this. So for 5th time i phoned my bank and with must exasperation and a very sad " i just want my money back " very nice man is putting a bacs trace on it.

so thank you
