Fixed term contract and mortgage

Does anyone know if it hurt my chances of getting a mortgage I were to start a job on a two year fixed term contract?

Currently in a mortgaged property, probably looking to move within 2 years. A job has come up which has excellent benefits and holidays and the contract would likely be extended if my friend’s experience is anything to go by, but I’m not sure if it would scupper our chances of remortgaging when we move.

I know my friend had problems recently ( although it was applying for a first mortgage). The mortgage lender demanded that she had been employed for a certain length of time and had a certain time period ( think it was a year) left. Our fixed term contracts are for one year though, so you may be ok .

We got a mortgage no problem. DH is a contractor with no guarantee of employment. Although we had to wait 6 months of his first contract starting to apply.

Thanks for the answers! Sounds like it might be worth trying at least.

I’d speak to a mortgage adviser to see who’s likely to lend and how the circumstances might affect the interest rate that you’re offered.

Speak to a mortgage adviser. Its not an uncommon situation these days, there are options for you
