Can anyone please explain what happens when your salary goes past the £50k point? I am about to start a new job earning £51k gross.

I think you pay it back proportionately between 50K and 60K. So you would have to pay back 10% of it.

And how do I do that? I’ve never used self assessment tax reporting. I’m just PAYE. Is it £50 gross then? What about pension contributons? Childcare vouchers salary sacrifice?

You’re supposed to self assess or stop claiming (obv still have to self assess for what you have claimed). Pretty sure it’s after pension contributions tho so if you pay 1k in there you will be off the hook.

It's net of pension contributions. Not sure about childcare vouchers.

You could just increase your pension contributions for now and you'll probably be beneath the threshold.

I pay about £4k to my pension so should be okay for now! Thanks for the advice.

Its after pension contributions and childcare vouchers, but you do have to add on any other income e.g. from property or savings interest. HMRC will have the full details but pension is normally the easiest way to reduce income that's liable.
