pension shortfall

I seem to have a massive shortfall in my state pension according to hmrc😞 2,500 four years worth. I though I was covered by hrp but obviously wasn't. Eek I'm just going to have to pay this at some point. I thought I had paid enough in, as seem to remember going to post office an paying in to cover my Ni. Really confusing. I won't get my full pension if I don't pay it will I? Really annoying as I worked intermittently but obviously with child care duties didn't earn enough, I would of been better signing on. Why doesn't anyone tell you this stuff.

Op your post is a little confusing, what does 2500 mean? And hrp?

35 years contributions are required for a full pension, but this doesn't only have to be from paid work though, your child care years will be covered by you claiming child benefit.

Maybe if you give more details, eg how old you are, how many years worked, how many years at home but claiming child benefit, then someone can advise you better.

Have you checked online, and looked through the list of every eligible year? I looked a while ago and could see every year than I had paid in.

Think hrp is Home responsibilities protection , or something like that. I vaguely remember in 1996 signing a form to protect my pension as I was a housewife.
2500 £2,500??

Well clearly someone does tell you this stuff if you know about HRP, you've previously made up missed Class 3 NI, and you're aware of your shortfall.

Not sure what your £2500 is - are you less than 4 years short? Each full year is £741, and it's a pretty good deal that you're allowed to make the back payments.

Maybe speak to Pensions Advisory Service if you're not sure how much you need to pay?
