Child/working tax credits after partner moves in

Hi all my partner of 3 years has finally moved in with me. Hes earning £22,000 a year and I am earning around £6,600 a year part time. I have a 10 year old from a previous relationship as well. My question is once I let my Credit people know that he is living with me and earning, how much do you think we would be getting from the Working tax credit if anything? I used the online calculator it was pretty high and would push out combined earnings to £29,600 a year or something.

Nothing unless you pay for childcare. The cut off for one child and no childcare costs is around 26k.

Babyroobs · 09/01/2018 21:55

Sorry , should have added the 26k is the cut of for child tax credits, but for working tax credits you would only get them if earning less than around 17.5k.

Is the online calculator totally wrong then? As I added my salary and my partners (£22,000 before tax) and it told me we would be entitled to both elements. I don’t pay for child care either

Yes I suspect it is wrong. You would definitely not be entitled to any working tax credits, this is for people on a very low income.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/01/2018 09:44

Childcare comes under working tax so you would get working tax childcare element .

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/01/2018 09:45

Sorry just seen you do t pay for childcare, the calculator will be telling you what you will receive from now until April.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/01/2018 09:46

The next tax year you won't receive anything.

MissWitch2310 · 10/01/2018 11:42

Yes I know its for people on low income as I am one of those people :)

Ahh ok well I will be calling up the tax people and then get it all sorted. We are worried that my payments will stop right away each week as both of us will not be paid until 22nd and 31st

You have up to 28 days to inform TC about a change in circumstances OP.

Great because his first pay packet won’t be the full amount as he started a week late so itl be three weeks wages. We are thinking of him not moving in until he has two wage slips so the council won’t be arsed like they usually are! It saves a lot stress
